Police Department

This position will provide non-emergency clerical work supporting the Town of South Berwick's public safety operations and directly reports to the Chief of Police and Police Lieutenant with a significant amount of autonomy.  It is a full time, benefit eligible role.  Please click the link above for more detailed information.

The Town of South Berwick Police Department is accepting applications for a Full Time Police Officer.  The Chief's ideal candidate will be highly motivated and have excellent people skills.  We are seeking a candidate who possesses a strong community policing mindset that complements their law enforcement experience, training and education.  Preference will be given to full time certified law enforcement officers. 

Must be at least 21 years of age, have an Associate's Degree or a combination of relevant training and experience and have satisfactorily passed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Alert test, have a valid driver's license and no criminal record or serious driving record.  The successful candidate will be required to pass an oral board, extensive background check, polygraph testing, psychological exam and physical exam.  They will also have to meet the minimum standard physical fitness requirements of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

Pay range is $20.82 - $28.02.

RESERVE TRAFFIC CONTROL.  The primary purpose of this role is to direct and manage the flow of traffic at busy intersections during periods of traffic congestion to ensure the free flow of traffic and safety of pedestrians.  Click on the link for more information.  Posted 10.31.17

NCIC and METRO Certification is mandatory. Certification in E-911 through the State of Maine is mandatory. Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification is highly desired. Completion of Terminal Operator Certification Course is mandatory.

Fire Department


The purpose of this position is to protect life and property by performing firefighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials, and fire prevention duties for the South Berwick Fire Department; all other related work as required. The Firefighter is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control.

Public Works


This position works under the direct supervision of the Highway Foreman, Jay Redimarker to provide meals and nourishment to the Winter Maintenance Crew during periods of inclement weather.  Needs are subject to change based on weather conditions and duration of the storm.  Requirements include having some culinary experience, dependable transportation, good work ethic, and the ability to work independently with little supervision.  Hourly wage is $13.50 per hour.  


This position is reserve only on an as - needed basis. Duties include winter maintenance, snow plowing and removal, salting and general labor tasks. Knowledge of safety rules and regulations is important. Applicant should be available for weather and non-weather related emergencies. A valid drivers license with a clean driving record is required. Hourly wage starts at $15.50/hr.

Transfer Station

Wed, Sat &/or Sun. Shifts may vary.

Successful candidates for the Transfer Station must be at least 21 years old, be reliable, able to lift up to 50 lbs, work independently and have an effective working relationship with the public.  The majority of the work is performed outdoors.  $15.00 per hour.
