The Town of South Berwick is looking for an innovative, high-energy person to work with youth from infancy through the teen years in “the best small town in Maine to raise children”. The right person for the job will enjoy working with children in an active and collaborative environment, have excellent technical skills including proficiency using social media and ILS, a background in children’s literature, great customer service skills and the desire to be a part of our community. Primary responsibilities are programming, information service, collection development and community outreach. Qualifications include a four-year college degree and 3-5 years of experience working with children. Evenings and Saturdays are required. Full Time/Hourly: $18.36/hour

Reserve Traffic Control
The primary purpose of this role is to direct and manage the flow of traffic at busy intersections during periods of traffic congestion to ensure the free flow of traffic and safety of pedestrians. Click on the link for more information.

Fire Explorer Program - (Ages 14 - 16) - This is a volunteer introductory training program providing a basic foundation in firefighting accomplished primarily through classroom instruction, hands on and/or practical training sessions and some fire call attendance.
Junior Firefighters - (Ages 16 - 18 or graduation from High School) - This next level of training continues to build on the fundamentals of firefighting as a paid employee of the town. They receive minimum wage and are covered under the town's workers compensation insurance.
Explorers and Junior Firefighters may only participate and operate in a support function role after the initial emergency has been declared safe by the incident commander. At all times the Explorers must be closely supervised by a fire officer, crew chief or senior firefighter. To participate, grades must be a "C" or better and the school progress reports will be reviewed each semester. They may not travel out of town on a fire call and are not to respond during inclement weather when school has been delayed or cancelled nor are they to come to the station if they were absent from school for any reason. They must comply with all Child Labor Laws (Title 26 M.R.S.A §701 - §785), the Fire Department Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Town Policy and Procedure.

The purpose of this position is to protect life and property by performing firefighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials, and fire prevention duties for the South Berwick Fire Department; all other related work as required. The Firefighter is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control.

Equipment Operator/Laborer - Seasonal/Reserve
This position is reserve only on an as - needed basis. Duties include winter maintenance, snow plowing and removal, salting and general labor tasks. Knowledge of safety rules and regulations is important. Applicant should be available for weather and non-weather related emergencies. A valid drivers license with a clean driving record is required.
Laborers - Seasonal/Reserve
This position is reserve only on an as - needed basis. Duties include assisting with winter maintenance including shoveling. Applicant should be available for weather and non-weather related emergencies.
Seasonal Cook - Reserve
This position works under the direct supervision of the Highway Foreman, Jay Redimarker to provide meals and nourishment to the Winter Maintenance Crew during periods of inclement weather. Needs are subject to change based on weather conditions and duration of the storm. Requirements include having some culinary experience, dependable transportation, good work ethic, and the ability to work independently with little supervision.
Transfer Station Attendants - Reserve
Wed, Sat &/or Sun. Shifts may vary.
Successful candidates for the Transfer Station must be at least 21 years old, be reliable, able to lift up to 50 lbs, work independently and have an effective working relationship with the public. The majority of the work is performed outdoors. $18/hr Click HERE for a job description.
